About

OpenCSMap is a system for geolocating Computer Science papers. Our main goal is to generate geographical information about such papers and show how Computer Science research is advancing all over the world. How do we do this? Our work is based primarily on the DBLP database. We use this data to find authors' affiliations, and then associate a paper with a most likely affiliation based on the authors' information. We then link affiliations to Wikidata using Entity Linking (OpenTapioca), which allows us to extract geocoordinates for affiliations and papers. For simplicity, we associate a paper with only one affiliation for now. We are looking forward to improving this system in the future. :)

How does a search work?

Our search is based on text. The system matches the terms of interest in the titles of the papers, journals and conferences.

Why my paper isn't on the map?

That's because we couldn't find an affiliation for any of the authors of the paper.

Why some authors have a '000X' number next to their names?

Because DBLP uses a number to diferentiate authors with the exact same name.

That's all for now. This the first version of the system so please use felipe.manen@dcc.uchile.cl for all inquiries.
